چکیده

High-harmonic generation (HHG) in solids has emerged recent years as a rapidly expanding and interdisciplinary field, attracting attention from both the condensed-matter atomic, molecular, optics communities. It exciting prospects for engineering of new light sources probing ultrafast carrier dynamics solids, theoretical understanding this process is fundamental importance. This tutorial provides hands-on introduction to description strong-field laser-matter interactions condensed-phase system that give rise HHG. We provide an overview ranging detailed different approaches calculating microscopic how these are intricately connected crystal structure, through conceptual HHG supported by semiclassical recollision model, finally brief calculate macroscopic response. also general Berry phase, we discuss important subtleties modelling HHG, such choice structure laser gauges, construction smooth periodic gauge nondegenerate degenerate bands. The advantages drawback laser-gauge choices discussed, terms their ability address specific questions numerical feasibility.

Theoretical analysis of high-harmonic generation in solids.

We investigate theoretically high-harmonic generation (HHG) in bulk crystals exposed to intense midinfrared lasers with photon energies smaller than the band gap. The two main mechanisms, interband and intraband HHG, are explored. Our analysis indicates that the interband current neglected so far is the dominant mechanism for HHG. Saddle point analysis in the Keldysh limit yields an intuitive p...

Theoretical description of high-order harmonic generation in solids

We consider several aspects of high-order harmonic generation in solids: the effects of elastic and inelastic scattering, varying pulse characteristics and inclusion of material-specific parameters through a realistic band structure. We reproduce many observed characteristics of high harmonic generation experiments in solids including the formation of only odd harmonics in inversion-symmetric m...

Modelling harmonic generation measurements in solids.

Harmonic generation measurements typically make use of the plane wave result when extracting values for the nonlinearity parameter, β, from experimental measurements. This approach, however, ignores the effects of diffraction, attenuation, and receiver integration which are common features in a typical experiment. Our aim is to determine the importance of these effects when making measurements ...

A Tutorial Introduction to Decision Theory

Decision theory provides a rational framework for choosing between alternative courses of action when the consequences resulting from this choice are imperfectly known. Two streams of thought serve as the foundations: utility theory and the inductive use of probability theory. The intent of this paper is to provide a tutorial introduction to this increasingly important area of systems science. ...

An introduction and tutorial on multiple-scale analysis in solids

Concurrent multiple-scale methods can be defined as those which combine information available from distinct length and time scales into a single coherent, coupled simulation. These methods have recently become both popular and necessary for the following reasons. One is the recent discovery of new, nanoscale materials, and the corresponding boom in nanotechnology research. Another factor is tha...
